Mission Statement
The mission of the Spillville Public Library is to enable all residents of our service area to have free and equal access to the intellectual resources which can satisfy their needs and interests; to acquire the technology that will enable residents to easily obtain and effectively use these resources; and to promote awareness among all residents of the relevance of these resources to their needs for information.
The primary purpose of the Spillville Public Library is: to be that point of access in the community to obtain information from the world; to purchase, organize and make readily accessible, books and other printed, recorded and filmed materials; to acquire hardware, software, services and materials to facilitate these resources; and to stimulate interest and give guidance in the free use of these to everyone in the community—regardless of age, sex, creed or social, economic or educational level.
These are the roles chosen for the Spillville Public Library bases on the needs identified within our community:
A. Informational – In this respect, the library’s role is: to serve as a center of information by having available resources for access to authoritative materials for the answering of specific questions whether that be from in house or at the source of that information, no matter were in the world it is available; to provide that central base for community activities by providing a comfortable setting for local gatherings for 30+ service organizations which use our facilities.
B. Educational – to provide access to reliable materials to help meet the needs of its patrons in their pursuit of formal and informal education from the cradle to senior citizens. The library sponsors weekly storyhour for preschoolers, schedules weekly library service for local elementary students throughout the school year, and offers continuing education supplied by the local community college for adults and senior citizens.
C. Recreational – to encourage reading for enjoyable use of leisure time for all ages by acquiring a current and popular collection of materials for all ages and offering access to materials not available in house through the SILO database and the internet.
The Spillville Public Library endorses the Library Bill Of Rights.

This resource is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by State Library of Iowa.
